ERL local and major tournaments are based in Europe and are open to international participation. Teams have traditionally competed in three categories (ERL Consumer, ERL Professional, ERL Emergency) leveraging techniques from industrial, service and emergency robotics. To these three categories we have now added a new challenge, ERL Smart Cities, which offers a unique opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of using a variety of types of robots in different living contexts. The ERL Smart Cities Robotics Challenge will take place every two years and will showcase how robots can operate in urban environments to provide services to citizens. The first such tournament will take place in Milton Keynes, UK, on 18-21 September, 2019.
